We're seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Engineer to own Online Marketing and Customer Lifecycle analytics—a high-impact role supporting Amazon's ambitious grocery growth goals. You'll be the technical leader enabling data-driven decisions that optimize how millions of customers discover, engage with, and return to Amazon's online grocery offerings.
What makes this role exciting:
- Strategic impact: Your work directly influences multi-million dollar marketing investments and customer acquisition strategies across Online and Sub Same Day (SSD)-Grocery, supporting an S-Team goal to grow active perishables customers
- AI innovation opportunity: Build and deploy business-facing AI solutions that transform how grocery stakeholders interact with data—from automated insights generation to self-service analytics agents that answer complex questions in minutes instead of days
- Complex problem-solving: Build analytics solutions for ambiguous challenges like marketing attribution, customer funnel optimization, and lifecycle segmentation where measurement standards don't yet exist
- Cross-functional influence: Partner with Marketing, Product, Tech, and Data teams across organizations to establish unified measurement frameworks and drive alignment on strategic initiatives
- Technical breadth: Design scalable ETL pipelines, build multi-touch attribution models, create automated reporting infrastructure, implement experimentation frameworks, and develop AI agents using AWS technologies (Bedrock, Redshift, Athena, QuickSight, S3)
You'll tackle challenges like:
- Reducing customer ingress attribution gaps from 12% to <3% through AI-powered data quality improvements
- Building end-to-end customer funnel visibility across fragmented data sources spanning multiple teams
- Creating self-service AI agents and dashboards that save thousands of hours annually while enabling real-time business decisions
- Developing lifecycle segmentation frameworks that identify high-value customer cohorts for targeted engagement
- Pioneering conversational analytics tools that let business users query complex data through natural language
Our team (Worldwide Grocery Stores Retail BI) increases the speed and quality of decision-making through advanced analytics, robust data infrastructure, and AI-powered automation. We balance immediate tactical needs with long-term strategic initiatives, making pragmatic trade-offs between analytical sophistication and actionability. You'll have the opportunity to learn AI techniques while applying them to real business problems that impact millions of customers.
What you'll bring:
Strong SQL and data modeling skills, experience with BI visualization tools (Tableau/QuickSight), ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into technical solutions, and excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences. You'll work independently with limited guidance while knowing when to collaborate and seek direction.
Ready to shape the future of grocery analytics? This role offers the unique opportunity to combine traditional BI excellence with emerging AI capabilities, positioning you at the forefront of how data teams serve business stakeholders.
Key job responsibilities
- Build scalable analytics infrastructure: Design and implement automated ETL pipelines, data models, and reporting solutions using AWS technologies (Redshift, Athena, QuickSight, S3) that transform raw data into actionable insights for marketing and customer lifecycle teams
- Drive marketing measurement excellence: Own end-to-end attribution analysis, customer funnel instrumentation, and lifecycle segmentation frameworks that enable data-driven investment decisions across multi-million dollar marketing budgets
- Develop AI-powered analytics solutions: Create conversational AI agents and automated insight generation tools that enable business stakeholders to self-serve complex analyses, reducing time-to-insight from days to minutes
- Partner cross-functionally: Collaborate with Marketing, Product, Tech, and Data teams to translate ambiguous business requirements into technical solutions, establish unified measurement standards, and drive alignment on strategic initiatives
- Deliver actionable insights: Conduct deep-dive analyses on customer behavior, campaign performance, and funnel optimization opportunities that directly inform business strategy and tactical execution
- Ensure data quality and reliability: Implement monitoring, validation, and documentation practices that maintain trust in analytics outputs and enable confident decision-making
- Mentor and influence: Share best practices, contribute to team technical standards, and elevate the analytical capabilities of both technical and non-technical stakeholders
A day in the life
You'll start most days reviewing overnight metrics—did marketing campaigns perform as expected? Any funnel drop-offs requiring investigation? You'll partner closely with Marketing PMs and Online Growth teams to translate their questions into analyses, often jumping into SQL to pull data or building QuickSight dashboards for self-service access.
Mid-morning might involve a working session with Tech teams to instrument new customer touchpoints or debug attribution gaps. Afternoons could mean presenting findings to leadership, prototyping an AI agent that answers common stakeholder questions, or collaborating with Data Engineering on pipeline improvements.
You'll balance planned projects (building attribution frameworks, lifecycle segmentation models) with urgent requests (explaining yesterday's order spike, validating experiment results). Some days you're deep in code; others you're whiteboarding measurement strategies with cross-functional partners. The variety keeps it interesting—you're never just pulling reports; you're solving puzzles that directly impact how Amazon invests millions in customer acquisition.
About the team

RBI's mission is to deliver transformational insights that grow the number of satisfied customers shopping groceries across Amazon. This supportive team values knowledge sharing and learning from each other. You'll develop expertise across the broader RBI organization while contributing to our AI transformation, building solutions that drive real customer impact.
